Cigarette Smoke Chemicals. Cyanide

Picture
Cigarette is a highly toxic product. Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 chemicals and at least 69 of them are known to cause cancer. 1

Why Cigarette is so Harmful?

Every part of the cigarette is impregnated in chemicals so once you lit the cigarette you begin a chemical reaction that creates numerous dangerous chemicals that you inhale with smoke. At one time in the 1950s Kent was sold with Asbestos filters.

Cigarette is toxic because smoker is inhaling products of burning. In addition to deadly chemicals like carbon monoxide which are inhaled during normal fire you get large number of additional poisonous chemicals.

Let’s look into cyanide in more detail

Cyanides are found in substantial amounts in certain seeds and fruit stones, e.g., those of apricots, apples, and peaches. In plants, cyanides are usually bound to sugar molecules in the form of cyanogenic glycosides and defend the plant against herbivores. 2

Many cyanides are highly toxic.

Deliberate cyanide poisoning of humans has occurred many times throughout history. 3

In addition to its uses as a pesticide and insecticide, cyanide is contained in tobacco smoke and smoke from building fires. Exposure to lower levels of cyanide over a long period results in increased blood cyanide levels, which can result in weakness and a variety of symptoms, including permanent paralysis, nervous lesions, hypothyroidism, and miscarriages. Other effects include mild liver and kidney damage. 2

Hydrogen cyanide in the form of Zyklon B was used in German extermination camps during World War II. 3
